Nature Gazing

I have always found enormous pleasure in nature gazing. Living in the mountains has provided opportunities for this in abundance. The patterns of branches against intense blue skies, or the winter wonderland created by moonlight sparkling on fresh snow are simply mesmerizing. In early spring, sprouting leaves are an ethereal pale green, lasting only a few short days, while in the autumn the world is aflame in vivid yellows and reds.

These cycles symbolize for me both the transience of life and the passage of time, and connect me to a more expansive reality. Contemplation of such beauty inspires in me a sense of wonderment and evokes a feeling of deep connection to the universe. I can forget everyday matters and reach a state where I lose myself in what feels like another world.

I have worked most often with Chinese ink on paper. The freedom of mark making with this medium suits my emotional response to the subject matter and allows me to express my strong feelings towards it.
